Capital Campaign Update September 2017
Dear Friends of Hokyoji Zen Practice Community:
As Chair of Hokyoji’s Honoring our Past, Building our Future Capital Campaign, I want to give you an update on the progress of our fundraising for the new Practitioners’ Hall and Dormitory. We are so grateful to the many people who have already contributed to the capital campaign. To date, we’ve raised over $425,000 in pledges and contributions towards our goal of $550,000. We continue our fundraising and are reaching out to folks in a variety of ways. If you have not yet made your contribution to the effort, please go to our secure online donation page.
While initially we had thought we would break ground this Fall, the decision was made to start construction in Summer 2018. The exact timing depends on many schedules–both for Hokyoji’s summer activities and for the builders’.
Waiting to start construction gives us several benefits: we will need less bank financing which will leave us in a better financial position; the Board of Directors will have additional time to assess all of the design, building and financing decisions; and it allows us to thoughtfully communicate with everyone who has been touched by Hokyoji and wants to be part of this historic project. We returned to the dharma of thoughtful reflection during this important decision-making period of time and we feel this course of action is in the best interests of Hokyoji and all who care about it.
We thank you for your contributions and your support of Hokyoji. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress.
