Directions to Hokyoji Zen Practice Community

You may use Google Maps from your address to our mailbox.

From the north, take Highway 61 along the river south of Hastings, MN or 52, 90, and 61 to La Crescent, MN. Go just 2.4 miles south of La Crescent on Highway 16/44 and look for the turnoff to the left onto Highway 26. Follow 26 south for 21 miles to New Albin, IA. About 4 blocks into New Albin, you will see the New ALbin Community Center on the right with it’s animated electric sign. Turn right on Ross Road, just before the community center, and head northwest past the cemetery on the right.

The road will become gravel (Houston County Road 5) about half a mile outside of New Albin. After another mile and a half you will pass a second red barn on the left which is followed by a field. At the end of the field, and right across from the white buildings in the photo, there will be a small gravel road with the Hokyoji sign and a smaller one which says 2649. Turn left on our gravel road and follow it for a mile back into a clearing where the retreat buildings are set.
